Join us for our next CCC Presents! as New Zealand calligrapher Margaret Woollett shares her personal journey of calligraphy and lettering, guided by her philosophy of "playing and doing." A childhood experience of being publicly called out for poor penmanship surprisingly ignited Margaret’s lifelong "Letter Love." Margaret recalls being captivated at a young age by Speedball Textbooks that eventually led to the discovery of Edward Johnston's seminal text, Writing and Illuminating and Lettering, which heavily influenced her work. Margaret’s presentation will highlight a series of challenging and "crazy" projects and her “play and do” problem-solving that led to some weird and wonderful things, including a back-lit book using LED lighting, papers made from a variety of fruits and vegetables, a papyrus scroll book, and a very large gilded and painted sign carved with a craft knife. In collaboration with her talented, supportive husband, who just happens to also be a craftsman builder, they quickly learned how to tackle the inevitable issues that crop up with each commission and “make stuff together really well.”
